Evaluation process

Subjective –– The quality of the end product while important, is not as important as the learning process that takes place while completing each assignment. Therefore students will be encouraged to reach an achievement level that may be higher than personal normal expectations.

Internet account

Each student will be assigned an Internet account that will be accessible from any computer with a Web browser. Students will be creating a personal web page with links to all completed class projects and assignments and hosting it in their Internet account.  Use of other domains will not be allowed.  For security purposes, it is the responsibility of each student to keep their Internet and classroom password a secret from others, even best friends.

Projects and assignments

Photoshop lessons due dates are firm. Late work will be accepted but with a letter grade reduction for each week work is late. Generally, images from the Web are of low quality and not acceptable for print projects. Use of low quality Web images may result in a lower project grade if quality is impacted. The assignments and projects in this syllabus are approximate based on class interest and level of understanding, additional assignments may be given.

Academic honesty and fairness

I consider honesty in the class a fundamental requirement. You are expected to assist other students immediately next to you who may be having difficulty with their assignments. But each student must do their own work. Assignments that contain compelling evidence of academic dishonesty will result in a forfeiture of available points possible. Anyone participating in dishonesty will also forfeit the same points possible.

Class conduct and work ethics

At the start of each grading period you are given 150 points. Each day you are absent or present a behavior problem 15 points will be deducted. If you maintain good attendance, stay on task, and have a good relationship with your peers and instructor, you will receive the full 150 points. If you donŐt meet the above requirements, your points will be pro-rated accordingly.

Tardy Policy

Class starts when the bell rings, entering class after that point constitutes a tardy. Using the restroom during class time will also count as a tardy. In other words, anytime you are temporary out of class on personal business counts as a tardy. If you are late because of a teacher or school official, be sure to get a note from them excusing your tardy.

Other than water, you are not permitted to consumed food and drink in class. If you consume either one in class, I will assume you would have been late to class if you stood outside the door to finish it before entering. Therefore eating or drinking in class will count as a tardy.

You are allowed to have three tardies per semester, one tardy for each of the 3 grading periods for using the restroom with no consequences. On the fourth tardy and each tardy thereafter, the following consequence will apply.

You will immediately sit at one of the three student desks in the front of the classroom, and using legible handwriting, write the tardy standard two times for each tardy you have accumulated. Example: 4 tardies = 8 standards written. Each standard will count as one paragraph and each standard/paragraph must be numbered in sequence.

Tardy Standard: Former President George W. Bush once locked out Secretary of State Colin Powell from a meeting because he arrived late. Seems it doesnŐt matter what your status in life may be, promptness is an attribute we must develop and exercise in our daily life.

You are not permitted to use a computer until your completed standards have been accepted and approved by Mr. Jose.

Cell Phone Policy

Cell phones are not permitted out of your pocket, purse, backpack, etc. during instruction time. Anyone breaking this policy will have his or her phone confiscated by Mr. Jose and turned over to the Assistant Principal. Refusal to relinquish the phone to Mr. Jose will result in a three-day class suspension.

Consuming food or soft drink is not allowed in class

The consequence for breaking this rule is a tardy. Consume your food and/or drink before entering class. If you break the rule it only means you would have been tardy anyway because you have to finish your food or drink outside before the tardy bell rings. Sharing someone elseŐs food in class will also result in a tardy.  School is also about developing healthy lifelong habits in addition to the normal learning that occurs.

Points possible and assignments to be completed may change at the discretion of the teacher.
